Brienz, Switzerland

Brienz- a small village on the northern shore of Lake Brienz where early settlements date back to the neolithic and Bronze Ages. In the 5th century BC, the Celts settled in the valley, which was eventually destroyed by Roman occupation by the end of the first century. The Roman settlements were then again destroyed when the Alammani eventually settled the area in 450. Brienz, used as a transportation route, had it's first steam ship introduced in 1839.
